4/16/2023 0 Comments Bettie page dark angel![]() Yes it was a little over the top & she could have put a little more realism in various kinky scenes rather then dumbing it down so everyone in the house got that it wasn't real but a recreation of scenes acted out 50 years earlier. Right off the bat I don't understand the reviewers on Amazon rating this 2 disc combo & Paige's performance as poor. My advice if you're a Bettie Page fan?.save your money on this one and go buy "Teaserama" and see the real Bettie Page ![]() Paige Richards "does a Bettie" she pouts, she poses and preens which you can't help but think that she's saying "Hey look at me, I'm doing Bettie Page" which to be honest together with the ham acting it's all very low budget B movie candyfloss and I for one didn't make it to the end of the film due to the pain caused by my toes curling too many times. The aforementioned tributed stars each had a very charismatic and unique persona, very hard for any actor to pull off and to attempt a cult icon such as Bettie Page then some things should be left well alone. ![]() Jason Scott Lee did a fair attempt at Bruce Lee albeit way too chunky and looking nothing like him, Kurt Russell as Elvis and seeing as we're talking about Bettie Page, Gretchen Mol as the lady herself in "The Notorious Bettie Page" ( M.From the offset I just knew that this was going to be a "fan movie" of sorts and to be honest, biopic's made on whatever budget seem to leave a rather tongue in cheek appeal. Collections with an interest in Page-and surely there must be some-may want to pick up this video, but most would be better served by acquiring the package of real features, The Bettie Page Collection, a three-disc set also put out by Cult Epics, priced at $49.95. DVD extras include a "Behind the Scenes: Bondage, Fighting & Nudity" featurette, Europop-like “original musical recordings,” and a photo gallery. Ultimately, however, writer-director Nico B.'s intentions are undercut by the amateurish stagings (especially on the docudrama side)-with the overall result being that Bettie Page: Dark Angel is closer to Showgirls than Ed Wood both in terms of presentation and appeal. Much has been made of Page's fresh-faced portrayals of obviously staged S&M and other relatively softcore porn, and actress Paige Richards captures her look and attitude well in this otherwise unpolished production. In fact, these scenes strikingly capture the look and feel of the cheesy sets and limp action of Klaw's oeuvre, the highlights of which featured Page and other actresses rolling around on the floor pretending to wrestle, or being intricately trussed up and stroked lightly with whips and such, all the while wearing two or three pairs of panties, since-as the Klaw character remarks here-any sight of pubic hair would get the filmmakers busted and the films seized as being obscene. An homage to the infamous titular ‘50s pinup girl, Playboy centerfold, and smut icon, Bettie Page: Dark Angel does a faithful job of recreating the absurdity of much of the film erotica of the time, combining docudrama vignettes from Page's life with relatively lavish recreations of the films she starred in for seat-of-the-pants producer Irving Klaw.
